Over the past few weeks I’ve been working on a Community Development Strategy (CDS) for Macarthur Heights, a new development 60km from the Sydney CBD. The project was commissioned by UrbanGrowth NSW (Landcom) in partnership with UWS Campbelltown and focuses on connecting residents, building local resilience and fostering an open and welcoming community.
It also gave me the opportunity to consider what a new community, with around 850 homes and located on the urban fringe of Sydney, would (should) look like? The CDS considers global trends to inspire community champions, social media to connect the digital and real worlds, and a unique partnership framework between the community and UWS Campbelltown.
The CDS will roll out over the coming years and aims to engage hundreds of community members in its activities and initiatives.
